Chapter 10 (Final)

Three years later.

It's funny how life moves on.

Three years ago, I thought my world had ended.

I thought calling off my wedding would be the hardest thing I would ever do.

Turns out...

It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Life didn't magically become perfect.

I still had bad days.

Still had moments when I questioned myself.

Still wondered if I could have handled things differently.

But eventually, the pain faded.

And when it did, I started living again.

I traveled.

Made new friends.

Focused on my career.

Found hobbies I never knew I'd enjoy.

Little by little, I built a life that made me happy.

A peaceful life.

And somewhere along the way...

I stopped thinking about Kelvin.

At least, most of the time.

One Saturday afternoon, I was curled up on my couch, mindlessly scrolling through Instagram.

Nothing important.

Just pictures of vacations, food, and people I barely spoke to anymore.

Then my thumb froze.

A wedding invitation.

I almost kept scrolling

Until I saw a familiar surname.

My heart skipped.

Not because I still loved him.

Just because I hadn't seen his name in years.

I clicked on the post.

The invitation filled my screen.

The colours were deep navy blue and silver.

Not champagne.

Not ivory.

Not even the emerald green I once suggested.

Just... something completely different.

At the top were the names of both families.

And below them...

The groom's name.

Kelvin.

For a moment, I simply stared.

Then my eyes moved lower.

To the bride's name.

And I felt my eyebrows shoot up.

Wait.

What?

I blinked once.

Then twice.

Read it again.

Surely I had missed something.

But no.

The name was still there.

Gloria.

Not Anita.

Gloria.

A laugh escaped me before I could stop it.

After everything...

After all the comparisons.

After all the interruptions.

After all the times Anita insisted she knew Kelvin better than anyone else.

After all the ways she inserted herself into our relationship.

He still didn't choose her.

He married someone else entirely.

I sat back against the couch.

Shaking my head.

And for the first time in years, I thought about Anita.

Not with anger.

Not with bitterness.

Just amusement.

Because suddenly something occurred to me.

Anita had spent so much time convincing everyone she knew exactly what Kelvin liked.

Yet somehow...

She wasn't the woman standing beside him.

I stared at the invitation for another moment before locking my phone.

Then I smiled.

Not because Kelvin was getting married.

Not because Anita wasn't.

But because I finally understood something.

Leaving wasn't my mistake.

Staying any longer would've been.

I didn't walk away because I wasn't strong enough to fight.

I walked away because I was tired of fighting alone.

And if I had the chance to go back and make that choice again?

I would choose exactly the same.

Every single time.
