It was as if he was always a second too late to hide the fact that he had already seen her.</p><p><br/></p><p>That evening, Amara left work late. The streets were unusually quiet, the kind of quiet that made every distant sound feel closer than it should have been.</p><p><br/></p><p>As she approached the bus stop, she saw him again.</p><p><br/></p><p>Daniel.</p><p><br/></p><p>Standing beneath a streetlight.</p><p><br/></p><p>Watching her.</p><p><br/></p><p>This time, he didn’t even pretend to look away.</p><p><br/></p><p>She hesitated for half a step, then forced herself to keep walking as if she hadn’t noticed him at all.</p><p><br/></p><p>The bus arrived with a hiss of brakes that sounded too loud in the empty street.</p><p><br/></p><p>She climbed in quickly and sat beside the window, her reflection faintly superimposed over the dark outside.</p><p><br/></p><p>As the bus pulled away, she looked back despite herself.</p><p><br/></p><p>Daniel was still there.</p><p><br/></p><p>Unmoving.</p><p><br/></p><p>His camera was already raised, as if he had known exactly when she would turn.</p><p><br/></p><p>For a moment, neither of them moved.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then—</p><p><br/></p><p>Click.</p><p><br/></p><p>The sound seemed to follow her even after the bus turned the corner.</p><p><br/></p><p>That was the last photograph ever taken of Amara.</p><p><br/></p><p>Or at least, the last one anyone would ever admit existed.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>
