Economy decline: can Nigeria overcome this challenge?

ECONOMY DECLINE: can Nigeria overcome this challenge?

         Can we overcome hard times?

A frequently posed question...now let us reflect on our past and let us also ruminate on issues, challenges, situations and opportunities . All these should help us as part of problem recognition.

Before any administration would come into office, they would often make promises of change or development. These promises were not made lightly. The government believes it's relentlessly trying to fulfill its commitment as a favor to the citizenry whereas on the other hand, citizens believe otherwise.

Steadily, the most inherited challenges from past administrations are insecurity, corruption and a failing economy which seems to have been on a consistent increase rate in recent times.

A failing economy is the most crucial at this point in time. It's no news that the Nigeria economy has been on an unwavering decline reaching every segment of the country thereby creating a storm among the citizenry .

From the burning platforms of social media,to work places to places of worship and neighborhoods, the people express their utmost dissatisfaction and complain that they have been pushed to their limits and do not know how much more they can take. It was due to their frustration that the youths of the country stage protests which unfortunately has claimed many lives. This brings us to the failed responsibility of the government as leaders who were supposed to oversee the affairs of the citizens in the country.

Now to insecurity and corruption which also has been on a steady incline and can also be traced to the declining economy.

Nigeria is grappling with various security threats including the Boko haram insurgency, kidnapping, robbery, banditry to mention but a few.

While corruption on the other hand, is endemic and also affects all levels of government, institutions and sectors and therefore makes it an almost impossible task to carry out their democratic duties efficiently it hinders economic growth, undermines trust in government and perpetuates inequality and partiality.

All this being said, this brings us to the notion that there is an insatiable need for a new era of government that will place the interest of the people first and lead with just, truth, transparency and selflessness.
