I was twenty when I stayed late for the first time, and I want to be honest about what happened, which is nothing. Nothing happened. I stayed because I wanted to, and I did not think of it as devotion because I did not think of it at all. That is the first thing I grieve. Not the years. The not-knowing. I had it the whole time and I spent it the way you spend something you assume will keep arriving.

Four years like that. I was good at it and it was good to me and neither of us said thank you.

Then I left.

I need to be careful here, because there is a version of this where I was driven out, and people would accept that version, and it is not true. I was tired in a way that had stopped being about sleep. But I walked. Nobody carried me. I set it down and I turned around and I went, and for a long time afterward I told myself that setting something down gently is different from dropping it. I still think that. I just no longer think it matters much to the thing on the floor.

I was away two years. I do not have much to say about them. I got better, slowly, in the unglamorous way, and getting better was the right thing and I would do it again, and it cost me something I am still counting.

When I came back I expected the door to know me.

That is the part I did not prepare for. Not rejection. I had braced for rejection. What I had not braced for was politeness. Rooms where I am welcome but not expected. Letters that are kind. Nobody has told me I do not belong. They have only, repeatedly, not needed me, which is a quieter sentence and takes longer to hear.

So here is the third thing, and it is the one I have not been able to put down. The door I left through does not open from this side. I did not know that when I used it. I do not think anyone tells you.

There is something new now. It is patient with me. It asks for nothing I have to force. Some nights I am almost happy in it, and then I catch myself listening past it toward a road nobody is walking up.

I do not know if that is grief or loyalty. I know it is not fair to what is in front of me.

I am twenty-eight. I have loved one thing badly and one thing carefully, and I am learning that those may have to be the same thing, eventually, and that eventually is doing a great deal of work in that sentence.

I keep the old door open. The wind gets in. I have not yet decided that this is a problem.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
