Ghost In The Crowd

I sit in rooms full of people and feel the echo of my own absence.

Laughter surrounds me, but it doesn’t touch me.

Stories are told, voices rise, hands clap...but I hear only the hollow chamber inside my chest.

I crave connection, yet I hesitate at every approach.

I want to reach out, to let someone in, but my own walls are higher than I admit.

Even when I speak, I wonder if my words land, or if they vanish like whispers in the wind.

It’s not that I dislike people.

It’s not that I hate the world.

It’s just that sometimes, I am a ghost in plain sight, seen but not felt, heard but not understood.

And the loneliest part?

I wonder if anyone else feels it too… or if I am alone in my crowd, forever searching for kin that may never see me.
