Him: The Man

Title- Him: The man

Have you ever felt like someone was watching you?

I was home alone, for the first time. Emily had just stepped out and our pet was asleep. Bo, we call him Bo.

"Lock the doors," she told me. Wish I listened…

I lay down on the bed scrolling through my phone, and plucking imaginary dirt on my teddy's fur. The bulbs shone brightly.

I spent a few minutes watching, and laughing at online videos.

My phone rang.

"Sup Mils?, Yeah, yeah, I'm good. Just watching videos. O-kay sis, will do my homework soon. Love you too. Bye."

I love the way she always checks up on me, my big sista.

My alarm clock buzzed. I knew it was time for my homework but I just wanted a few minutes watching more videos. Snooze.

Everywhere was quiet except for the scratching sound I ignored. I was too engrossed in the funny videos. There was something else I ignored, the sinking feeling that someone was watching me.

Soon after, the feeling became unbearable so, I got up and looked out the window. I could see the yard and the sidewalk, there were only a few people here and there. None of whom were close to where I was. A man walking his dog chatting with a woman walking hers. I couldn't hear their conversation but I knew they paid no attention to me. The other people were farther.

On seeing no one, I sighed, walked towards my door and locked it. I should've done that earlier. I decided to start my homework.

I put on my headphones and turned on some music. Not long after I sat down, I turned to look at something in the corner of my eye that caught my attention. It was a figure.

"Hello? Who's that?. I'm not scared of you!" I said but there was no response.

                  HIM: THE MAN (part 2)

…Hello? Who's that?. I'm not scared of you!" I said but there was no response.

Slowly I grabbed my phone to call Emily. She answered on the second ring.

"Hello?, Mils, I'm scared. There's someone here, I can't see their face but they're watching me." I whispered.

"Lock the doors, close the curtains, I'll be home soon."

As soon as I got up to close the curtains, the lights went off. It took every bit of courage in me not to scream. I turned on the light in my phone and slowly walked towards the curtains, closing them. I prayed and hoped that Milly would be home soon, like she said. I trusted she'd have called mum and dad or at least the police.

I heard a loud bang! And I shivered, there was someone in the house. I looked around for a weapon but I could find none. I was indefensible. I pushed the dresser with all my might towards the door, blocking it. In case they wanted to come through the door, I hoped that would stop them.

I heard footsteps and something dragging against the floor, getting closer. I ran to the closet to hide. I looked at the corner and found a tennis racket, that'll do.

Then, it became quiet. I heard nothing. So, I knelt and peeped through the keyhole, there was no one in my room, besides me of course, at least that's what I thought. I slowly opened the door and went out, assuming all was well.

I felt a cool breeze on my back, I knew I was not alone. So I ran to the opposite side of the room, not looking back, screaming at the top of my lungs. I stumbled on something and fell to the ground. Next thing I felt— a hand grabbing my ankle. That was the last thing I remembered…

When I came to, I heard sirens and a voice that sounded like Emily's. I couldn't make out what she was saying but I was glad it was all over.

I'm never leaving the doors unlocked again.
