I keep forgetting I’m pretty
<p>you’d think after all the years of weird, inappropriate comments from adults</p><p>or the relationships and flings</p><p>i’d be more secure in my looks</p><p><br/></p><p>all the times i got special treatment just for being “adorable”</p><p>and yet</p><p>i don’t know if it’s a self-esteem thing</p><p>or body dysmorphia</p><p>maybe both</p><p><br/></p><p>sometimes i catch my reflection and think,</p><p>who’s this beautiful person staring back at me?</p><p><br/></p><p>and it’s usually on the good days </p><p>the ones where i’ve slept well,</p><p>finished my chores,</p><p>checked my to-do list,</p><p>maybe even treated myself to something i’ve been craving</p><p><br/></p><p>on those days,</p><p>i feel beautiful</p><p><br/></p><p>and it’s strange,</p><p>because i’m constantly told how attractive i am</p><p><br/></p><p>so why do compliments fade so fast</p><p>while criticism lingers for years?</p><p><br/></p><p>why does praise feel like a passing breeze,</p><p>but negativity take root like a weed?</p><p><br/></p><p>our sense of self</p><p>is built on the choices we’ve made,</p><p>but most of our thoughts</p><p>come from other people’s voices we’ve internalized</p><p><br/></p><p>so how do i hold onto what’s mine </p><p>the parts of me that should inspire gratitude </p><p>instead of wishing i was someone else</p><p><br/></p><p>but that’s the coco, innit</p><p>if we didn’t have flaws,</p><p>we’d be perfect</p><p>and have nothing left to fix,</p><p>change,</p><p>or grow from…</p><p><br/></p><p>maybe it is just my shite self-esteem lol</p><p><br/></p>
