Jobs I’m Not Comfortable Seeing Men Do: Part 1

Omoo, there are some jobs I personally don't think men should be doing.Before you come for me, let me explain myself first. 😂I know men can be professionals. I know they can be hardworking, respectful, properly trained and very good at what they do. I'm not saying men are incapable of doing these jobs.I'm talking about the jobs I personally feel uncomfortable having a man do around me.And the first one is being a doctor.Well, not every kind of doctor.If I have malaria and I need a doctor, please, anybody should attend to me. Male doctor, female doctor, I don't have the strength to start forming preference when my body is doing me somehow.But when it comes to certain personal examinations?Please give me a woman.I don't know how to explain it without sounding dramatic, but there is just a different level of comfort when you're dealing with another woman.Especially when the situation involves very private parts of your body.I came across a TikTok video recently that made me realize just how strong this preference actually is for me. A woman was talking about being in serious pain around her bum and eventually having to see a doctor. The doctor was a man, and she was also on her period.And the whole time I was listening, I kept thinking, “Omo... I could never.”Imagine you're already on your period. You're uncomfortable. You're probably bloated, tired, irritated and just generally fighting for your life.Then you have to explain to a man that your nyash is hurting.😭Then he tells you that he needs to examine you.At that point, I will just stare at the ceiling and start questioning every decision that brought me to that hospital.And yes, I know.“He's a doctor.”I KNOW.“He sees things like that every day.”I KNOW.“It's literally his job.”I KNOWWW.But knowing someone is professional doesn't automatically mean I will feel comfortable.That's the difference.I can trust that a male doctor is doing his job properly and still prefer a female doctor for certain things.Because sometimes it's not even about thinking the man has bad intentions. It's about how vulnerable you feel in that moment.There are things I can comfortably explain to a woman without feeling like I want the ground to open and swallow me.And maybe that's just me.Maybe another woman will read this and say, “Please, I don't care. Once the doctor knows what he's doing, let him do his work.”Fair enough.But me?If there are two doctors available and one is a woman and the other is a man, and I'm there for something personal?My choice has already been made.Madam doctor, where are you?😂And I don't think that preference automatically means men shouldn't be doctors. They absolutely can be. Some of the best doctors in the world are men.This is simply one of those situations where I know what makes me comfortable.Because when you're already scared, embarrassed, in pain or feeling exposed, the last thing you need is to spend the entire examination thinking about how uncomfortable you are.So yes.Male doctors can do their jobs.I just personally don't want one examining my private parts if I have a choice.Abeg, let me be comfortable in my suffering. 😂And that's only part one.Because there are two other professions where I have VERY strong feelings about this.Don't worry.We'll get there.
