Lagos Through My Eyes

Lagos teaches a language no classroom ever could.

It teaches that success and struggle can share the same street, sometimes the same room. That hope can survive another rejection, another traffic jam, another month that didn’t go as planned. Here, people wake up carrying dreams too heavy for their pockets, yet somehow they keep moving.

I’ve learned that the city never really asks who you are. It asks what you’re willing to become.

Every face I pass is fighting a battle I’ll never fully understand. The woman selling food before sunrise. The man rehearsing confidence for a job interview. The artist waiting for one person to believe. The entrepreneur gambling sleep for possibility. In Lagos, everyone is writing a future while trying not to forget who they were yesterday.

This city has shown me that survival is common, but living with intention is rare.

So I write. Not to explain Lagos, because no one truly can. I write to preserve the fragments that disappear every day. The quiet victories, the invisible heartbreaks, the laughter that arrives at the wrong time, the strangers who unknowingly change our lives.

Lagos isn’t just where I live.

It’s the place that keeps editing me.
