PROLOGUE

Why did I ever meet him?

If I had known, I would have stayed at home—staring at my blank sheet of paper, trying to solve an equation that actually made sense. But I didn’t.

Most of you might be wondering what is going on in my head right now. Well, this is just my soliloquy.

My name is Alexandra Nwoke, but I prefer Alexa. I’m seventeen years old. Some people see me as a child, but I am far from that.

Let me skip the unnecessary introductions and get straight to the story.

*************

ALEXA’S POV

“Good morning, students,” our homeroom teacher said.

“Good morning, sir,” we replied in unison as chairs scraped and everyone settled down.

“Today, I’ll be introducing you to a new course mate” he continued. Murmurs filled the room immediately. He cleared his throat and gestured to the boy beside him.

A tall, muscular, dark-skinned guy stepped forward. He stood like a soldier—straight-backed, confident. His cornrows framed his face perfectly, and his almond-shaped eyes scanned the room calmly.

I could already hear girls whispering.

“Oh my God…”

“He’s so fine.”

“Jesus, is he real?”

I sighed and rolled my eyes. Disgusting.

“My name is Tolu Emeka Anyaoku,” he said after clearing his throat. “I’m a transfer student from Peace College.”

The girls were practically purring now.

“Please be nice to him,” our teacher said. “And Mr. Tolu, you’ll be sitting beside her.”

He pointed directly at me.

“Alexa, be accommodating.”

Then he walked out.

The class erupted instantly.

“Did you see his arms?” Chinwe whispered loudly to her minions.

“That guy is definitely mine,” another girl giggled.

“I wish he was told to sit beside me,” someone else said

I rested my head on my desk and turned away. I wasn’t interested.

He sat down quietly beside me.

I could hear him breathe.

Great. He wants to talk.

I quickly leaned over to Irate.

“Please,” I whispered. “Save me.”

She smirked. “Say no more.”

Moments later, she raised her hand.

“Sir, Alexa is needed at the office.”

And just like that, I escaped. ********************************************************

N.B: Alexa is the bookworm and brilliant kid in her class, and this is getting in her head but there is going to be a lot of twist and turns that would change her. Just sit tight and read, new chapters would be released just for you guys.
