Matriculation is More Than a Ceremony, It’s the Beginning of a Journey.

Many students today do not have a lucid understanding of what matriculation truly means. They often think it is only about dressing nicely, taking pictures with friends, having fun, or enjoying refreshments on that particular day. Some even go as far as organizing outside parties in the name of matriculation. However, the meaning of matriculation goes far beyond that.

Matriculation is an act of embarking on a new academic voyage. It is the formal confirmation that one has been officially admitted or enrolled into a school, college, or university. More importantly, it revolves around preparing oneself to work toward achieving academic goals throughout one’s stay on campus.

Matriculation inspires in the minds of students the spirit of commitment, discipline, and dedication. Sadly, many students begin to fail academically from the very day of their matriculation because they have not acquired or have refused to adhere to the true lessons that matriculation teaches.

One seldom striking fact is that , many students who eventually graduate with first-class degrees received their motivation right before or immediately after their matriculation. They sacrificed their time, energy, and effort in exchange for success, and indeed, their success prevailed. It is unusual and almost impossible to find a first-class graduate without a strong sense of commitment and dedication.

Today, I remember the words of one of my seniors who graduated with a first-class degree. He spoke to me on my matriculation day last year 2024 and said, and I quote: “Know the reason why you are here and work towards achieving it because it’s more like a semo 😊. If success is attainable, don’t settle for less.” He went further to say: “Don’t try to impress others with whatever you are endowed with, because you only have A—others might have B to Z.”

Do not be deceived by anyone. Do not be discouraged or negatively influenced. Stay focused, stay disciplined, and remain committed to achieving your academic dreams and ambitions.

Congratulations to all who matriculated today at Lagos State University, Ojo.

Am I right with my opinion? At the end of each month, we give out cash prizes to 5 people with the best insights in the past month
as well as coupon points to 15 people who didn't make the top 5, but shared high-quality content.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
