In as much as it's well known that History is a wide and complex field that speaks and accounts for events that have occurred in the past, aiming to reconstruct the present and create a well-organized future, many people reading history books and insights have little knowledge about what history entails, which might affect their understanding of it.

However, history is not just about dates and events, as people often perceive it. Many individuals believe that anyone who is a historian or wants to study history will be overly concerned with memorizing dates of events. Although dates of events are one of the major concepts of history, but it goes beyond that. History provides an accurate understanding of the context of events, causes of events, consequences of events, and how those events shape our present and future.

Another significant aspect to know about history is that it is not always objective, but subjective, where historians bring their own personal views and perspectives to interpreting a certain event. Different perspectives and opinions of history scholars on a common event often lead to diverse interpretations of that same event. For example, there are different perspectives and interpretations on the exact year of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which divided Germany into East and West blocs. Some historians say it was in 1989, while others report its collapse after the disintegration of the Soviet Union (Russia) in 1991, which spearheaded the communist ideology.

To sum it up, history is not a static field but rather a dynamic phenomenon that keeps evolving over time. Existing discoveries and interpretations of ancient and past events can be challenged by new ideas. This is because the interpretation of events solely depends on evidence such as oral traditions, oral information, archaeological discoveries, and artifacts. New ideas and interpretations of events can only challenge old or existing interpretations if they are built and presented on original evidence, making history a dynamic and ever-changing field.

Keep moving, learn more, and never relent! š

Bolajiāļø
