My Best Friend, My Polar Opposite

I won't lie, if someone had told me that we would one day become best friends, I probably would have found it funny.

Why? Because she was the complete opposite of me.

She was loud, but she wasn't intimidating. Beautiful, but she wasn't proud. And all the guys wanted to date her.

Me? I was quiet, insecure, and often felt invisible. Well, at least, that was what I thought.

All the guys wanted to date her.

Me? Well, all my imaginary guys wanted to date me. 😂

She was friends with almost everyone in class, and even if she wasn't friends with someone, they still wanted to be friends with her.

Meanwhile, the two friends I had were in another school.

I was always lonely and observant. She was always surrounded by people, and honestly, I was jealous.

Although I don't remember exactly how we became friends, I'm really glad we did.

Because the image of her I had in my head wasn't really who she was.

As we became closer, I learnt a lot about her life, her struggles, and her faults. I realised that she wasn't as perfect as I had imagined her to be. Sometimes, she didn't even want to be noticed or surrounded by people.

Sometimes, she wished she was in my shoes.

Our friendship taught me that you can never really know someone just by looking at them.

She taught me how to become more comfortable around people. She brought me out of my shell and taught me how to be more courageous.

And I encouraged her to pursue her goals. I always reminded her that she's that girl. I helped her realise that she didn't always have to be surrounded by people to be happy or feel valued.

She was even ready to help me get admission into the same school she was going to, although it didn't work out in the end.

Looking back, I think our differences are what made our friendship so special.

We brought out the best in each other.

Although I might not know her favourite colour, I know that she will always be like a sister to me.

I'm so glad we got the chance to meet.

My best friend. My polar opposite.

Even though we might not be in the same school anymore, I'm always going to be by her side and support her, because I love her.

And if someone had told the younger me that the loud, beautiful girl everyone wanted to be around would one day become my best friend, I probably wouldn't have believed them.

But I'm glad they would have been right.
