My Mirror Keeps Showing an Old Woman Standing Behind Me (Episode 2)

Episode 2

I stood at the door, still unsure whether to tell my fiancée what I had just seen.

When I opened it, she stepped inside with a gentle smile, but the moment she looked at my face, her expression shifted.

“You look… tense. What’s wrong?”

I hesitated.

But hiding it felt pointless. So I took a slow breath and told her everything, the old woman behind me in the mirror, the wet footprint on the floor, the bedroom door left open.

I expected shock.

Fear.

At least concern.

But instead, she let out a small laugh.

“Babe… seriously? You’ve been watching too many scary videos online. Mirrors play tricks on people. And you?” she tapped my shoulder lightly, “you’re a full-grown man.”

Her tone was playful, almost dismissive.

Her reaction didn’t sit right with me, but her confidence almost made me doubt myself. Maybe I was overthinking things.

Trying to reassure myself, I stepped back into the bathroom. Just to look. Just to confirm everything was normal.

But the moment I looked into the mirror

She was there again.

The old woman.

Standing behind me, still and quiet, as if she had been waiting for me to return.

I froze for a second, then spun around.

And standing there… was my fiancée.

She gave a soft smile.

“I followed you… hope I’m not disturbing?” she said.

My thoughts scattered. I couldn’t form a full sentence. Was she just checking on me?

Or… was this something else entirely?

“No… it’s fine,” I murmured, though nothing about it felt fine.

She hugged me slowly, her hand running down my back as if trying to calm me.

But my mind wouldn’t settle.

A little later, I asked how she even found my house.

She smiled casually.

“Oh, you once described the street. I felt bored today and decided to try finding it. Luckily, I did.”

I nodded, but something inside me tightened.

It still didn’t add up.

I stepped outside to call my closest friend, Dan.

I told him everything, the mirror, the old woman, the unexpected visit.

He laughed loudly. “Guy, forget that mirror wahala. Your girl came to see you, focus on her.”

His response didn’t help.

So I called Emma, my older friend.

After listening quietly, he said:

"You need to be careful. Sometimes strange things don’t happen by accident. Watch your steps… and don’t let your guard down."

His words stayed with me long after we ended the call.

When I walked back inside, I froze.

My fiancée had folded her clothes neatly.

And she was wearing one of my shirts…

like she had already settled in for the night.

She turned quickly and gave me a warm smile.

Before I could say a word, she rushed into my arms and hugged me tightly.

The hug felt warm.

But something about it didn’t feel right.

To be continued…

Written by Dede of Africa
