My Mirror Keeps Showing an Old Woman Standing Behind Me (Episode 3)

Episode 3

I sat on the couch, trying to make sense of what I’d been seeing, the old woman in the mirror.

Rita sat beside me, watching the movie quietly.

But my mind was too crowded. I needed space. I didn’t even know how to ask her to leave without sounding strange.

Before I could decide what to say, her phone rang. She stepped outside to answer it, and when she came back in, she picked up her bag immediately.

“I have to go,” she said quickly. “We’ll talk tomorrow.”

“Is everything alright?” I asked.

She nodded too quickly.

I didn’t push further.

She dressed up and left in a hurry.

Less than ten minutes later, my phone rang.

It was my mother.

“Son, how are you doing?”

“I’m… not really fine, Mum.”

“What happened?”

I explained everything, the old woman in the mirror, the strange footprint, and Rita showing up unannounced.

My mother went silent for a long moment.

When she finally spoke, her voice was low and careful:

“Keep away from Rita.”

My chest tightened. “Mum, no. She’s the only woman I’ve ever truly loved. I want to marry her. Why should I stay away? All of this could just be coincidence.”

My mother sighed deeply.

“What you’ve been seeing these past few days… those are warnings,” she said. “You’re stepping into something you don’t understand. Rita belongs somewhere else, and the old woman is giving you a sign.”

“No, Mum,” I insisted. “It has to be my imagination. I’ll get over it.”

“Listen to me,” she said calmly. “Ask Rita to tell you the truth about herself. Insist.”

Her words stayed with me long after the call ended.

I dialed Rita immediately.

She didn’t answer.

Hours passed.

Around 1 a.m., she finally called back.

I hadn’t slept. My mind wouldn’t stop spinning.

Before she could say anything, I asked:

“Rita… is there something you’re hiding from me?

You know how much I love you.

Just tell me the truth. Who are you, really?”

Silence.

A long, heavy silence.

Then her voice came through, soft but unsettling:

“If you discover the truth… there will be no turning back,” she whispered.

“Look into your mirror. You’ll find your answer there.”

She ended the call before I could breathe a word.

The room felt colder, as though something unseen had stepped in.

I glanced at the time.

1:07 a.m.

I stood up slowly…

each step toward the wardrobe mirror, heavier than the last.

To be continued
