My Mother-in-Law Only Visits at Night and Always Leaves Something Behind Episode 3
<p>Episode 3</p><p><br/></p><p>“Please come,” I called out.</p><p><br/></p><p>The urgency in my voice made my wife rush out of the kitchen, still holding the glass of water she had gone to get for her stepmother.</p><p><br/></p><p>She stopped short.</p><p><br/></p><p>My wife’s stepmother stood frozen, her hand hovering over the table.</p><p>Between her fingers was the pin she had been leaving behind all along.</p><p><br/></p><p>For a brief second, no one spoke.</p><p>I turned to my wife.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You see it now?” I said quietly. “This is what I’ve been trying to tell you.”</p><p><br/></p><p>My wife stared at the pin, then at her stepmother. Her lips parted, but no words came out.</p><p><br/></p><p>I stepped forward.</p><p>“You didn’t drop that by accident,” I said.</p><p>“So tell us what it means.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She took a deep breath.</p><p>“It’s nothing,” she said quickly. “Just an old pin.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I shook my head.</p><p>“That’s not true,” I said.</p><p>“If you don’t tell us the truth, this will not stay hidden.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Her hand began to shake.</p><p><br/></p><p>That was when she broke.</p><p><br/></p><p>“When my stepdaughter married you,” she said slowly, “I couldn’t stand it. She was happy. Peaceful. Everything worked for her… while my own children struggled.”</p><p><br/></p><p>The room went silent.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Every time I came here and saw laughter… order… calm,” she continued,</p><p>“it burned me. I didn’t want it to last. I wanted cracks. I wanted strain.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked at the pin in her hand.</p><p>“That’s why I kept coming. To see if the peace had started to break.”</p><p><br/></p><p>My wife broke down.</p><p>“You?” she cried. “I called you mother, I trusted you. I defended you.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Her stepmother lowered her head.</p><p>“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “Please forgive me.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I said nothing at first.</p><p>I looked at my wife.</p><p>Then at her stepmother.</p><p><br/></p><p>Finally, I exhaled.</p><p><br/></p><p>“We will forgive you,” I said slowly.</p><p>“But you will never step into this house again. And this will not stay hidden.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She begged me to keep it quiet.</p><p><br/></p><p>I shook my head.</p><p><br/></p><p>She left without another word.</p><p><br/></p><p>My wife moved into my arms, shaking.</p><p><br/></p><p>“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you,” she whispered. “I should have listened.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I held her close.</p><p>“I’m just grateful we saw it in time,” I said.</p><p><br/></p><p>From that day on, our home felt lighter.</p><p>Stronger.</p><p><br/></p><p>We believed God had watched over us, and opened our eyes before things went too far.</p><p><br/></p><p>We became more careful about who we allowed into our space.</p><p><br/></p><p>As for my mother-in-law, we never saw her again.</p><p><br/></p><p>The End</p><p><br/></p><p>Expect another story soon.</p>
