NIGERIA: WE ARE TIRED, BUT WE ARE STILL STANDING 🇳🇬

NIGERIA: WE ARE TIRED, BUT WE ARE STILL STANDING 🇳🇬

Every morning, millions of Nigerians wake up and do something that deserves more recognition:

They try again.

They wake up early.

They enter crowded buses.

They go to work.

They open their shops.

They attend lectures.

They search for jobs.

They learn skills.

They create businesses.

They hustle.

They pray.

And somehow, they keep moving.

Yet, for many families, life has become increasingly expensive. Food, transportation and everyday necessities continue to put pressure on household budgets, while insecurity remains a serious concern in parts of the country. At the same time, Nigeria's economy has shown some signs of improvement, creating a complicated reality: the numbers may improve before ordinary people actually feel comfortable.

This is where we must remember something important.

Nigeria is not only its government.

Nigeria is not only its politicians.

Nigeria is us.

The trader who refuses to cheat a customer.

The driver who chooses patience over aggression.

The young person who learns a skill instead of giving up.

The employer who pays workers fairly.

The citizen who refuses to destroy public property.

The student who chooses knowledge over shortcuts.

The person who helps someone who is struggling.

Because while we demand better leadership—and we absolutely should demand accountability—we must also ask ourselves:

What kind of country are we building through our everyday choices?

A better Nigeria cannot be built by government alone.

It requires citizens who still believe honesty matters.

It requires young people who refuse to surrender their future.

It requires leaders who understand that leadership is service, not privilege.

It requires communities that protect one another.

And it requires all of us to stop normalising things that should never have become normal.

Nigeria has problems.

Serious ones.

But Nigeria also has something incredibly valuable:

People who refuse to give up.

So, if you're struggling right now, don't be ashamed of your struggle.

Keep learning.

Keep building.

Keep looking for legitimate opportunities.

Keep supporting good people.

Keep your integrity.

And above all, don't allow a difficult economy to convince you that your future is hopeless.

A difficult country does not mean you must become a hopeless person.

We can demand better from our leaders while becoming better citizens ourselves.

Because change is not only something we wait for.

Sometimes, change begins with the person looking back at us in the mirror.
