Our Fate

No one tells you that love and choice are two different languages.

One is spoken by the heart, the other by the weight of a life already built.

She learned that on the longest night of her life.

Not when they met.

Not on the beach, where the tide carried strangers toward one another, as though the sea itself had approved.

Not when he smiled, or asked for her number, or made forever sound close enough to touch.

She learned it the night she begged to be chosen.

There is a certain silence that follows a plea.

The kind that waits, hoping love will become enough.

It never did.

She searched his eyes for another ending.

Another universe.

Another answer.

Anything…except the one he carried in his trembling voice.

“You deserve better.”

Such gentle words. Such violent wounds.

Because she never wanted better.

She wanted him.

Then came the sentence that settled into her chest like winter.

“Maybe I should never have approached you that day.”

How cruel it is for the place where your favorite memory began to suddenly become someone else’s greatest regret.

She wished he had never said it.

Not because it wasn’t true in some impossible way but because she’d spend years wondering whether she’d still choose that day knowing how it would end.

She would.

Every single time.

Because some loves are worth meeting even when they’re destined to become grief.

People say love conquers all.

But they never tell you that love still bows to timing.

To promises.

To responsibilities.

To the lives that existed before you arrived.

She discovered that someone can love you deeply... and still not choose you.

That realization does not break the heart all at once.

It teaches it how to ache every morning.

So now, she must learn a different kind of love.

The kind that does not reach out.

The kind that celebrates quietly from a distance.

The kind that lets him laugh without asking to be the reason.

The kind that carries his name like a prayer instead of a promise.

And in another life

One untouched by impossible choices

She believes they would have made it.

In this life, she was simply the right woman who arrived at the wrong time.

And perhaps that is the quietest tragedy love has ever written.
