The Day Didn’t End Right

It didn’t happen loudly.

No warning.

No buildup.

Just a normal day…

that was supposed to be different.

Because it was her birthday.

A day that should have started with calls,

messages,

“long life and prosperity,”

pictures, laughter, small joy.

A day that should have been remembered

for life.

But somewhere between a moving vehicle

and a body hitting the ground,

everything changed.

And suddenly,

time became everything.

The kind of time that decides outcomes.

The kind of time people pray will be enough.

Minutes.

Moments.

Breath held between maybe and too late.

And in moments like that,

you don’t think about policies or procedures,

you think about one thing:

Can she be saved?

Some are saying help didn’t come fast enough.

Some are saying there were delays.

We don’t know everything.

But we know this,

When life is hanging in the balance,

every second should count like it matters.

And then…

There’s what comes after.

The silence.

The shifting stories.

The feeling that something so heavy

is already being handled too lightly.

Because why does it feel like

answers are not as urgent

as they should be?

Why does it feel like

the truth is being softened,

or worse… slowly buried?

This is where it hurts differently.

Because it’s no longer just about the accident.

It’s about accountability.

About whether truth will stand,

or quietly step aside.

But beyond all of that,

There are people.

A family

that woke up expecting celebration

and met loss instead.

Friends

who didn’t know their last conversation

was the last.

Course mates

who will sit in lecture halls

and feel the absence louder than any noise.

A seat that will remain empty.

A name that will be called once… then skipped.

She was supposed to graduate next year.

“Almost” is such a painful place to stop.

Almost done.

Almost there.

Almost becoming.

And now…

Everything is paused.

Life is fragile in ways we don’t like to admit.

One moment, you’re making plans,

next moment, you become one.

So while we demand answers,

while we ask questions that deserve to be answered

Let this also remind us:

To show up for people now.

To say what we keep postponing.

To not live like time is something we control.

Because between time… and silence,

between plans… and reality

Anything can change.

And sometimes…

There is no “later” to fix it.
