THE DAY I WONDERED

I wonder if I’m the only one this has ever happened to. 😭

One day, I was outside cleaning the front of my house. I was mopping when one of my mum’s friends passed by on her way to our house. I greeted her politely, “Good morning, ma.”

Instead of returning the greeting, she looked at me and said, “You cannot kneel down to greet me? What is wrong with you? Didn’t your mother train you properly?”

Then she went on about how all her children kneel whenever they see an elderly person and even threatened to report me to my mum so that I could be scolded. 😭

Meanwhile, in my head, I was just like, “Wetin this woman dey do? Wetin be my business with all her children?” 😂

I had already greeted her respectfully. Must I kneel every time I greet an elderly person? Or is that just a matter of personal and cultural preference?

Honestly, that experience stayed with me because sometimes people assume their way of showing respect is the only correct way.

Have you ever experienced something like this before? 👀
