THE NEED TO WATCH AND PRAY

I once knew a guy who had distinction from 100 level until his final year, but he didn't graduate with his mates.

When they tell you that life is spiritual, don't take it as a joke. There are things you may not understand until they happen to you.

This is a true-life story.

This guy was exceptionally brilliant.

From 100 Level until his final year, he maintained a distinction.

He was always among the best students in his class.

In fact, it was difficult to compete with him academically. He understood things quickly, studied hard and consistently came out with excellent results.

For seven years, he kept going.

100 Level.

200 Level.

300 Level.

400 Level.

500 Level.

600 Level.

Even into 700 Level, first semester, he was still maintaining his distinction.

Everyone expected him to graduate successfully with his classmates.

Nobody imagined that anything could stop him.

Then their final professional examination drew closer.

One day, while he was studying with some of his friends, he casually said something.

He said he had a dream that he failed the final exams and didn't get to graduate with his mates.

He was saying it jokingly.

His friends immediately became serious.

“Don't joke with that. Pray about it.”

He laughed.

“It's just a dream. I've never failed since 100 Level. Why would I suddenly fail now?”

He laughed again.

“I just need to study harder.”

And that was exactly what he did.

He studied.

He prepared.

He attended the examinations.

And according to him, he wrote every paper confidently.

He came out of the examination hall believing he had done well.

Then the results were released.

He checked.

And froze.

His name was not there.

At first, he thought it was a mistake.

He checked again.

Nothing.

He went to the faculty to make inquiries.

Then something even more disturbing came up.

According to the available records, there was no evidence that he had written the examination.

His name was missing from the attendance records.

His examination scripts could not be found.

Yet he remembered sitting for the examinations.

His friends remembered seeing him there.

They testified that he was present.

But somehow, his name wasn't appearing where it was supposed to appear.

Nobody could explain exactly what happened.

He was devastated.

Imagine spending seven years in school, working toward one goal, only to watch your classmates graduate while you remained behind.

He cried.

He pleaded.

He searched for a solution.

But there was no solution that year.

He did not graduate with his mates.

He had to wait another year and resit the examination.

This is to remind you that life is more spiritual than many people realise.

There are things that happen in the physical realm that we may not fully understand because their roots may have already been established in the spiritual realm.

Many people have strange dreams, disturbing dreams, or dreams that leave them deeply uncomfortable. But instead of paying attention, they simply wake up and say, “It was just a dream.”

Please, don't always dismiss everything as “just a dream.”

Sometimes, a dream can be a warning. Sometimes, it can be a call to prayer. Sometimes, it can reveal something you need to take seriously and commit to God.

This doesn't mean every dream is a prophecy or that every bad dream will come to pass. But, you should learn to discern, pray, and seek God's direction rather than casually dismissing everything you see.

If you have a disturbing dream, don't panic.

Pray.

Get on your knees and commit the situation into God's hands.

Don't allow fear to control you, but don't ignore every warning either.

There are battles you may never see with your physical eyes, and there are things prayer can change before they become physical realities.

Don't joke with your prayer life.

Don't joke with discernment.

Don't joke with the spiritual aspect of your life.

Because sometimes, what looks ordinary in the physical may have a deeper spiritual dimension.

Stay prayerful. Stay discerning. Stay close to God...

© Oluwakemisola Grace Adebayo
