The Olodo Uprising: Are we Rewarding Ignorance or Authenticity?

The Olodo Uprising is a trend which argues that success is a function of a high dose of stupidity interspersed with creativity. It says that education is overrated. It mocks the solid foundation and principles that make for a healthy society. It erodes the value of acquiring knowledge.

But who fuels it?

Who are the "we"?

"We" are the app developers who feed instant cravings and leave deeper holes.

"We" are the generation which swipes past valuable information for quick laughs.

"We" are the content creators who normalize absurdity for clout.

"We" are the ones who repeatedly watch, like, comment and share those videos, for no reason other than to identify with the latest trend.

"We" are the "gees" who use the state of the nation as excuse for fraud and conning.

"We" are the ones on trial here.

This whole awareness made me think, in what ways am I participating to this repulsive behavior. Because yes, it is repulsive.

Oh, how far we have fallen!

Today, let's ask ourselves the hard questions, and in answering, make the decisions that will actually tamp down this olodo uprising.

Stopping this uprising doesn't start with lecturing the creators; it starts with withholding the clicks, the shares, and the applause. If we stop paying with our attention, the market for ignorance bankrupts itself.
