THE WEIGHTS WE CARRY (Anthropomorphic fiction)

When you cannot find the sunshine be the Sunshine

The desert woke first. Wind pushed hard across open sand. Dry grains scraped together and made a sharp whispering sound. Heat rose early and stayed.

In camel territory the camels knelt. Ropes pulled tight around their bodies. Leather pressed deep into skin. Heavy loads settled onto their backs with a dull thud.

Hooves pressed into sand. Crunch. Scrape. Crunch.

Each step sank and resisted. The sky stayed bright and empty. The desert offered no comfort.

One camel felt pain spread across her back.

“This is hard.”

She breathed once.

“I will continue.”

She leaned forward. Muscles tightened. Hooves pushed. Crunch. Lift. Walk.

The dunes ahead stood taller than the ones behind

Wind rushed louder, striking their bodies and filling their eyes with sand. One camel lowered her head and moved closer to another, placing her body between her companion and the wind.

A young camel slipped. Sand slid beneath his hooves. The load shifted and pulled him down.

“I am tired.”

Two camels stepped in at once. Their sides pressed firmly against his. They stayed still, holding him upright until his legs became steady again.

“I can walk.”

He walked.

Their hooves kept a slow rhythm. Thud. Scrape. Thud. Scrape. The desert remained harsh and empty. The camels answered with care. They shared shade by walking close. They shared water without counting. Love showed itself through action.

The land tested them again and again. The camels answered by moving forward together.

Night came. Wind softened. Sand cooled beneath their hooves. One camel stayed standing while the others slept. The load stayed on her back. Her muscles ached.

“I want to rest.”

She stayed still.

“I will stand a little longer.”

Morning returned. The camels knelt again. Ropes tightened. Leather pressed. Hooves touched sand. Crunch. Crunch.

They moved forward together, carrying weight without complaint, becoming sunshine for one another. 🌅🐪
