<p><br/></p><p>In the land of the heart and the time of pain,</p><p>the past ruled without mercy.</p><p><br/></p><p>It pressed on my chest like borrowed breath.</p><p>It followed me like a name I could not drop.</p><p><br/></p><p>There are dimensions of pain.</p><p>Some pain arrives as a gift wrapped in thorns.</p><p>Some pain stands as an adversary, daring me to fall.</p><p>Some pain becomes consolation when tears are all that is left.</p><p><br/></p><p>The past does not sleep.</p><p>It rises in memory.</p><p>It speaks in scars that learned how to talk.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sigmund Freud said, “Unexpressed emotions will never die.”</p><p>So I speak before silence swallows me.</p><p><br/></p><p>Like fire questioning gold, pain tested my truth.</p><p>Like storms teaching rivers direction, pain shaped my path.</p><p><br/></p><p>I repeat this truth.</p><p>The past hurt me.</p><p>The past humbled me.</p><p>The past instructed me.</p><p>The past gave me choice</p><p>George Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”</p><p>I remember so I can break the circle.</p><p><br/></p><p>I repeat again.</p><p>The past lived in me.</p><p>The past left marks on me.</p><p>The past did not own me.</p>
