This Is What It Means To Be A Child.
<p>I asked this child what he wanted, and he replied without the slightest hedging, “A toy car” and I couldn't help but wonder and ponder on the meagerness of his wish.</p><p><br/></p><p>But yes, I could relate to it, for once in my lifetime, I stood in his stead, and all I ever wanted from life was a bicycle and lots of sweets and biscuits.</p><p><br/></p><p>You see, as we grow and advance with the passing of time, our wishes multiply and morph from being absolutely basic to an endlessly complex string of desires. He who once desired just a colourful wristwatch now wants all the elements that make for a good life, and the little girl who jumped for joy at the sight of a Barbie doll is now a lady with an inexhaustible birthday wish list.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>I have become too aware of the world now, and this has given rise to a thousand present desires. I have seen houses that reek of architectural magic, and so I want one. I have seen the endless possibilities that money creates, and so I want wealth. I have come into the knowledge of automobiles and aircraft and the ease they bring to life, and so I want them.</p><p><br/></p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1000634115.jpg"/></p><p><br/></p><p>But I tell you from a place of sincerity, that I want to go back to those simple days of juvenile oblivion. I want to have less awareness of the world that lies beyond and play without thinking about what the next moment holds.</p><p><br/></p><p> I want little gifts, whether a pencil or an eraser, to ignite unbridled joy within me, and when asked, just like that little child I met, what I desire, I want my face to light up, and my mouth to utter, with intentionality and all due sense of honesty: “A toy car.”</p><p>Or, you know what?</p><p>I just want to be a child again.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1000634116.jpg"/></p><p>You see, to be a child is to be at rest, to be unafraid of what tomorrow's tide may bring. </p><p><br/></p><p>It is to sleep unperturbed, to see the world as a playground of adventure. It is to see Mother's bosom as the only secure place; to believe in the absurd and the existence of superheroes - Spiderman and his intricate webs, Superman and his heroic cape, Hulk and his rigid muscles, Thanos and the Six Infinity Stones.</p><p><br/></p><p>It is to believe the world is beautiful, untainted, spotless, perfect; to dwell in a world of illusions and concoctions of the mind; to be curious, to ponder, to repeatedly ask questions on subjects that intrigue the mind.</p><p><br/></p><p>Think of them - these young ones - and you think of carefree innocence. See how they run like ghosts on the loose. See how they play, re-enacting a wild goose chase. See how they hide and seek. See how they pay homage to the earth, knees to the ground, raising castles of sand.</p><p><br/></p><p>To be a child is to be at your best.</p><p><em><br/></em></p><p><br/></p><p><em><br/></em></p><p><br/></p>
