Too late

Too Late

People say time heals everything.

They lied.

Time doesn't always heal. Sometimes, it only teaches you how to live with a wound that never closes.

Every morning, I wake up to the same silence. The kind of silence that screams louder than thunder. The kind that reminds me of everything I had... and everything I destroyed.

There was a time when laughter filled my days. There was a voice that called my name with warmth, hands that reached for mine without hesitation, and eyes that believed in me even when I couldn't believe in myself.

I thought those moments would last forever.

I was wrong.

Regret is a strange punishment. It doesn't arrive immediately. It waits. It watches. Then, when everything is gone, it settles into your chest like an unmovable stone.

I remember every harsh word I said.

Every call I ignored.

Every apology I thought could wait until tomorrow.

Tomorrow never came.

The hardest part isn't losing someone.

It's remembering that they stayed... until they couldn't anymore.

I watched them cry.

I watched disappointment slowly replace hope.

I saw the light leave their eyes, yet I convinced myself they would never leave.

Love doesn't disappear in one day.

It dies quietly.

One broken promise.

One forgotten birthday.

One unanswered message.

One "I'm too busy."

One "We'll talk later."

Until "later" becomes "never."

Now I walk through places where memories still breathe.

The café where we laughed until sunset.

The road where we dreamed about our future.

The bench where promises were made.

Nothing has changed.

Except me.

Except us.

The world continues as if nothing happened.

People smile.

Children play.

Birds sing.

But inside me, everything stopped the day I realized I had become the villain in someone else's story.

There are nights when sleep refuses to visit.

Instead, memories come.

Not the happy ones.

The painful ones.

The final conversation.

The trembling voice.

The tears I pretended not to notice.

The goodbye I thought was just another argument.

If only I had listened.

If only pride hadn't been louder than love.

If only I had chosen kindness instead of anger.

If only...

Those two words have become my prison.

No sentence is more painful than "If only."

I carry invisible scars no one can see.

People ask why I don't smile anymore.

How do I explain that every smile reminds me of the one I lost?

How do I tell them that my greatest enemy isn't another person...

It's my own memories.

Some regrets don't fade.

They become part of your heartbeat.

Every breath whispers what could have been.

Every sunrise reminds you that another day has begun without the chance to make things right.

The cruelest truth about life is that forgiveness sometimes comes after the opportunity is gone.

You can become a better person.

You can change.

You can learn.

But not everyone is still there to witness that change.

And that...

That is agony.

So if you still have someone who waits for your messages...

Someone who forgives your mistakes...

Someone who believes in you despite your flaws...

Don't make them wait forever.

Because one day, you'll search for them in every crowd...

You'll hear their voice in strangers...

You'll reach for a hand that is no longer yours to hold.

And when that day comes, you'll finally understand that the heaviest thing a person can carry isn't hatred.

It is regret.

The kind that no amount of tears can wash away.

The kind that follows you long after everyone else has moved on.
