We've misinterpreted what body shaming actually is

Let's talk about, "body shaming"

Now, body shaming is simply making fun or saying demeaning and insulting words to someone about their weight, whether their on the plus side or very thin.

Now, in this modern time and day we have misinterpreted what body shaming actually means. Any comment on a person weight is, even a well meaning own is often tagged, "body shaming".

So, now people usually don't say anything about a person's weight, even if it comes from a place of care.

Here's where I draw the line: If I tell a person on the plus side, to go the gym or watch what they eat, that's not body shaming, provided it's said from a place of care and not as an insult. But a lot of people, especially the person it's addressed to think it's body shaming

Let's stray a bit to friendship. If your friend can't tell you the truth, or point out something you're doing wrong, or give you honest advice, then they don't really care about you and isn't looking out for you.

Back to the topic at hand, when people tell you workout because you're on the plus side or go on a diet, that's not automatically body shaming. Sometimes it's them caring for you and for your well-being, not body shaming.

I'm not saying mockery or insults are okay, they're absolutely not. I'll never support that. But I think we've gotten to a place where people don't want to hear any comment about their weight, even some that means well. That's a severe issue.

Let's stop misinterpreting body shaming. Let's save the term for real cruelty and not for honest advice that comes from people who cares.
