Who Discovered Bitterleaf?
<p>I have one question that has been bothering me.</p><p>Who was the first person to look at bitterleaf and think, “Yes… this will make a good soup”?😂</p><p>Because let's be honest.</p><p>This person picked a leaf that was "bitter".</p><p>Not slightly bitter.</p><p>Not “maybe add a little seasoning” bitter.</p><p>"Bitter".</p><p>And instead of throwing it away, this person looked at it and said:</p><p>"Hmm… let's put this in the pot." 😭</p><p>What were you thinking?!</p><p>Were you that hungry?</p><p>Was there no alternative?</p><p>Did you accidentally taste the leaf, make a face, and then think, “Wait… I might be onto something here”? 😂</p><p>And then came the washing. Squeezing.</p><p>Washing again.</p><p>Squeezing again.</p><p>At some point, someone must have stood there wondering:</p><p>“Are we still making soup or are we trying to remove the sins of this leaf?” 😭</p><p>But somehow…</p><p>They figured it out.</p><p>They discovered that underneath all that bitterness was something delicious.</p><p>Add the right ingredients, give it time, and that same leaf that made you squeeze your face can become a soup people will fight over at the dining table.</p><p><img src="/media/inline_insight_image/bitterleaf_soup.jpg"/></p><p>And honestly, there's something beautiful about that.</p><p>Sometimes, "good things don't taste good at first."</p><p>Some things need patience.</p><p>Some things need preparation.</p><p>Some things need the right combination of ingredients before you can appreciate what they can become.</p><p>Maybe bitterleaf wasn't a bad leaf after all.</p><p>But I still want to meet the person who first decided to put it in soup. 😂</p><p>What were they thinking?!</p><p><br/></p><p>And be honest:</p><p>Do you actually enjoy bitterleaf soup, or do you eat it because it's part of the culture? 😂</p><p><br/></p>
