YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE YOUR WHOLE LIFE FIGURED OUT AT 19

You Don't Have to Have Your Whole Life Figured Out at 19

There is a kind of pressure that comes with growing up. Everyone seems to expect you to know what you want, where you're going, and how you're going to get there.

At 19, you may look around and see people who seem to have everything together. Someone is already making money. Someone else knows exactly what they want to study. Another person seems confident about their future.

And then you look at yourself and wonder, “Am I behind?”

The truth is, you probably aren't.

Growing up is not a race. You don't have to have your entire life planned out just because you're getting older.

Sometimes, you are still discovering yourself. You are learning what you like, what you don't like, what you're good at, and what kind of person you want to become. That process takes time.

It's okay to change your mind

You may choose a career today and discover later that your interests have changed. You may start learning a skill and realize that you enjoy something completely different.

Changing direction doesn't always mean you failed. Sometimes it means you learned more about yourself.

Don't compare your beginning to someone else's progress

Social media can make it look as if everyone is succeeding except you.

You see someone's business, another person's achievements, someone's beautiful lifestyle, and suddenly you feel like you're doing nothing.

But you are usually seeing a small part of their story.

Instead of asking, “Why am I not where they are?” ask yourself, “What small thing can I do today to move forward?”

Read something. Learn a skill. Practice your writing. Start that small idea you've been thinking about. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Try again.

Small progress is still progress.

Give yourself permission to learn

You don't need to be perfect before you start.

You don't need to know everything before you take your first step.

You can start small and learn along the way.

Maybe your life doesn't look the way you imagined it would at 19. That's okay.

Your current situation is not the final version of your story.

You are still learning. You are still growing. You are still becoming.

So, if you're worried because you haven't figured everything out yet, take a breath.

You have time.

Keep learning. Keep trying. Keep becoming
