A Little Bit More

Ada knew she wasn't likable. There was an extreme intensity she could never outgrow; anyone who met her would play a metaphorical game of tug-of-war. On one side stood intense hatred, on the other, acceptance. People rarely fell on the other.

It didn't surprise her when the people she worked with looked at her with mixed feelings of jealousy and spite. She thrived under it even. She made her way to his office to tell him about octopuses and dolphins. He was engrossed in work, but he typed less and less the more she spoke. She noticed.

Elvis walked in, cutting off a particular belly laughter she found quite cute. She smiled, happy to give them new material to talk about.

He knew what he was doing, and so did she. She was smarter than this thing she had with her boss, and perhaps that's what made it more exciting.

There was no offense committed. All she had wanted to know was a little bit more about the charismatic, mysterious, curious man in front of her.

And goddammit she enjoyed it.
