Ogi.
<p>Ogi is hard to make.</p><p><br/></p><p>The steps are simple: cold water first, thick paste, then boiling water.</p><p><br/></p><p>It's easy, but it still ends up a mess.</p><p><br/></p><p>Ada's favorite breakfast is ogi and akara. But she almost always messes it up.</p><p><br/></p><p>Instead of the thick consistency, she ends up with something runny she has to coax on the stove.</p><p><br/></p><p>It was the morning after the breakup. The wedding was called off, and she would have to write emails and endure difficult phone calls.</p><p><br/></p><p>First, she needed to make ogi.</p><p><br/></p><p>She put the paste in a plastic bowl and added a bit of cool water.</p><p><br/></p><p><em>Stir. Stir. Stir.</em></p><p><br/></p><p>The image of Eze on top of another woman flashed through her mind, and her legs got weak.</p><p><br/></p><p>The beep of the electric kettle. The water was hot now.</p><p><br/></p><p><em>Pour. Pour. Pour.</em></p><p><br/></p><p>The girl riding Eze in the way he never let her do.</p><p><br/></p><p><em>Stir. Stir. Stir.</em></p><p><br/></p><p>The way he held her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Ada's life was falling apart, but the ogi was perfect.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe it was a sign.</p>
