The eerie sound of the clock ticking in the class room seized the breath of every student in grade ten, including mine. Two minute left before another life is gone and the countdown begins after every five hours. The light tapping of feet on the floor of the classroom, heavy breathing and anticipated death of the next unknown victim fills the air with an ardent amount of fear. Who's next? What sort of death awaits such a person? Am I next? Questions like these fly through the atmosphere during the five hours of survival.

One minute left and I swear I can hear the heartbeats of my classmates close to me or maybe it's mine? Whispered prayers are ascending into the air, the everyday tears are starting to flow again, most people are trying to act tough and others may have accepted their fate. These have become a repeated pattern at Madonna's ever since I got admitted into the school.

10…,9…,8…, the silent countdown begins. Who could be next?

“5…,4…,3…,2…,1…” as usual the hands of the clock stops ticking. Who's its next victim? The silence in the classroom is so deafening, everyone waiting for the normal dire screams of students to fill the air.

Suddenly the door to the classroom swings open and in walks our Chemistry teacher. A false smile plastered on her face have always been a way for her to give us false hope that we will get through all these. It's been three weeks now and honestly we all doubt things will ever get better and now we have a proof right before us.

Mrs. Jumai, our Chemistry teacher has one word we all use for her. Cheerful. Every grade ten favorite teacher has got to be her and our English teacher Ms. Debby. Breathes are stilled and fear is written on the face of everyone seated. Even her's but she masks it with a smile.

Our Chemistry teacher suddenly collapses right before she parted her lips to speak and white foamy substances spills past her red painted lips. We all know the final result for this one. Screams and scrapping of chairs to the end of the classroom, followed by every students including myself hiding behind our desk at the back of the classroom. Our gaze shifts from our dying teacher to the clock hanging above the entrance of the classroom…10:00am it reads but we all know what will happen once that seconds hand ticks and it didn't take long for us to find out.

“He..help me.” Her last words and then it all went down. Before our eyes, our favorite teacher's body swells in an abnormal way, blood dropping down her nostril and ears. 10:01am and her body explodes, painting the whole classroom with her blood and organs. Splatters of her blood taints our white t-shirts and dark blue checkered pants and plaid skirts and her detached head rolls towards us. The life in her eyes gone, her once cheerful face now contorted in pain and it didn't take long before the real chaos began. Every student heads for the classroom door in panic and disgust. Some falling over others while trying to escape. Shock ring in my ears...I thought only the students get affected by this curse but here she is staring back into my eyes. Lifeless. Gone.

“IJ!”

“IJ!!”

“IJ!!!” I'm snapped back into reality when Bisola shakes me by my left hand.

“Sola…are you okay?” I asked checking for any sign of harm on her.

“I'm fine…let's go and meet the rest.” She says. Her doe eyes glistening with unshed tears. We both get off the floor and join the other students in leaving the classroom with thoughts that after the next five hours we're losing another soul to this anathema in Madonna's Heritage High.

Best Content
We give out cash prizes to 7 people with the best insights in the past month. The 7 winners are picked
by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.

Monthly Score
The Top Monthly Contributors ranking is a monthly metric indicating how users respond to your posts, not just how many you publish.
We look at three main things:
1
How strong your best post is —
Your highest-scoring post this month carries the most weight. One great post can take you far.
2
How consistent the engagement you receive is —
We also look at the average score of all your posts. If your work keeps getting good reactions, you get a boost.
3
How consistent the engagement you receive is —
Posting more helps — but only a little.
Extra posts give a small bonus that grows slowly, so quality always matters more than quantity.
In simple terms:
A great post beats many ignored posts
Consistently engaging posts beat one lucky hit
Spamming low-engagement posts won't help
Tips, comments, and upvotes from others matter most
This ranking is designed to reward
Thoughtful, high-quality posts
Real engagement from the community
Consistency over time — without punishing you for posting again
The Top Monthly Contributors leaderboard reflects what truly resonates, not just who posts the most.
