April Fool… But Why Do We Keep Falling for the Same Things?

It’s April 1st.

The day of harmless lies.

Fake announcements.

Pranks we know are coming… and still fall for anyway.

“April fool!”

We laugh.

We shake our heads.

We think, “I can’t believe I fell for that again.”

And then we move on.

But here’s the thing…

Today isn’t the only day we fall for things.

We fall for words we wish were true.

For promises that sound perfect, but barely hold up.

For chances we think will be different this time.

For people who act like they’ve changed… only to repeat the pattern.

We notice the signs.

We see the history.

We even whisper to ourselves, “Not this time. I won’t.”

And yet…

We still fall.

We fall because hope is stubborn.

Because curiosity keeps poking at our hearts.

Because somewhere inside, we want to believe that things can be better.

It doesn’t always matter if we’re careful.

We’re drawn to what feels promising.

We’re tempted by the things we said we’d never touch again.

We give second chances. Third chances. Maybe even fourth.

We fall for people.

We fall for ideas.

We fall for opportunities that look like answers but turn out to be riddles.

And isn’t it funny…

that we act surprised every single time?

Maybe the joke isn’t on April 1st.

Maybe the joke has been on us all along.

But falling isn’t always a weakness.

Falling shows we still care.

We still hope.

We still want life to make sense.

It’s only foolish if we refuse to learn from it.

It’s only foolish if we keep repeating the exact same mistake without reflection.

So here’s the thing:

Laugh at the prank today.

Smile when someone tricks you.

Shake your head when you fall.

But also… notice the patterns you’ve fallen for outside of April 1st.

Notice the lies you still believe.

Notice the things you’ve been hoping for, even though deep down, you know better.

Because growth isn’t in never falling.

Growth is in recognizing it, learning from it, and still being brave enough to hope.

So this April Fool’s Day…

Laugh.

Reflect.

And maybe, just maybe…

don’t fall for the same thing twice.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

We pick the top 3.
The winners are picked using the "Top Monthly Contributors" tab on the rankings page.
Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
