It rang once… then went dead.</p><p><br/></p><p>Later that afternoon, I met Rylee at the café.</p><p><br/></p><p>He was unusually quiet.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You look like someone who didn’t sleep,” he said.</p><p><br/></p><p>I showed him the messages.</p><p><br/></p><p>He read them slowly, then leaned back in his chair.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You sure you want to start digging into this?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“What do you mean?”</p><p><br/></p><p>Rylee tapped the table thoughtfully.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Because sometimes, bro… the past has a way of showing up when you least expect it.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Before I could ask what he meant, Dolapo walked into the café.</p><p><br/></p><p>She glanced at us both.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she said something that made the room suddenly feel smaller.</p><p><br/></p><p>“So… you met her.”</p><p><br/></p><p>My heart skipped.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You knew?”</p><p><br/></p><p>Dolapo gave a slow nod.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Yes.”</p><p><br/></p><p>I leaned forward.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Then tell me something,” I said quietly.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Who exactly did I meet last night?”</p><p><br/></p><p>Dolapo sighed.</p><p><br/></p><p>The kind of sigh people make when they already know the truth is going to hurt.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Someone,” she said softly,</p><p>“who once loved someone else very deeply.”</p><p><br/></p><p>---</p><p><br/></p><h3>Next On…</h3><p><br/></p><p>Tonight, I will see her again.</p><p><br/></p><p>But this time… she won’t be alone.</p><p><br/></p><p>And the man standing beside her</p><p>will make me realize something terrifying.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe I wasn’t the first chapter in her story.</p><p><br/></p><p>Maybe I’m just the next mistake.</p><p><br/></p><p>---</p><p><br/></p><p>Questions for readers:</p><p><br/></p>
