My ears rang. “That’s a lie.” The man shrugged calmly. “Is it?” All eyes turned to her. The woman who only hours ago had said my name like it meant something. Her silence felt louder than the accusation. Dolapo stood up slowly. “Okay… someone needs to explain this right now.” Rylee shook his head. “Tavi was your guy, BigDan. Your boy.” I ran my hands through my hair. “This doesn’t make sense.” The man chuckled. “Oh it makes perfect sense.” He turned to the woman. “Tell him.” She looked up at me, her eyes heavy with something that looked like regret. “Tavi and I were together,” she said quietly. I swallowed hard. “But things were already broken between us.” Rylee scoffed. “Broken?” She nodded. “He was distant. Angry. Always suspicious.” Dolapo crossed her arms. “That still doesn’t explain BigDan.” She looked at me again. And finally the truth began spilling out. “The night everything happened… Tavi had already accused me of cheating.” The man smirked. “Because he had proof.” She shook her head. “No.” Her voice cracked slightly. “He had suspicions.” She looked directly at me. “And that night… I came to this café.” Memories flickered in my mind. A late night. Rain outside. A long conversation about writing and broken relationships. I felt my stomach twist. “You were upset,” I whispered. “Yes.” “And we talked for hours.” “Yes.” Rylee leaned forward. “Did you two—” She raised her hand. “No.” The café went silent again. “Nothing happened between us.” The man laughed loudly. “Now that’s a beautiful performance.” He clapped slowly. “Really. Oscar-worthy.” Dolapo narrowed her eyes. “Why are you enjoying this?” His smile faded. “Because Tavi deserved better than this circus.” Then he looked directly at me. “You want the truth?” I didn’t answer. But he said it anyway. “The reason Tavi disappeared…” He paused. “…wasn’t heartbreak.” Another pause. “…it was humiliation.” Faye suddenly stepped closer to the table. And when she spoke, her voice carried something none of us expected. Authority. “You’re wrong.” Everyone turned toward her. The man frowned. “And who exactly are you?” Faye didn’t even look at him. Her eyes stayed on me. “Tavi didn’t disappear because of humiliation.” The café felt colder again. Dolapo frowned. “Then why did he disappear?” Faye inhaled slowly. Because the next sentence was the one nobody was ready for. “Tavi disappeared because he discovered something dangerous.” Rylee blinked. “Dangerous?” Faye nodded. “Yes.” She looked straight at the woman sitting beside me. “Something about her.” --- <h3>Next On…</h3> Tomorrow night, Faye will reveal what Tavi discovered.
