EXODUSING : Whispers of Freedom.

“Moses is back !!!”

At first, it was only a whisper.

The kind of whisper that travels from one tired soul to another, careful not to wake hope too soon.

"Moses has returned."

"The God of Abraham sent him."

"They say he stood before Pharaoh."

I heard the words before I understood them. I was only a child, too young to know the weight of slavery beyond the calluses on my father's hands and the quiet sighs my mother buried after sunset. Egypt was the only world I had ever known. Bricks, Dust, Sweat and The crack of an overseer's whip. That was life and a normal that I was very well acquainted with.

So when the whispers began, I listened the way children do, not because I understood, but because the grown-ups suddenly spoke as though every word mattered.

His name was Moses.

Some remembered him as the Hebrew child who had been raised in Pharaoh's palace. Others remembered the man who fled after killing an Egyptian. Many wondered why he had returned at all.

No one walks back into Egypt unless they have nowhere else to go,I knew for sure that if I had the opportunity to abscond, I wasn't coming back. Why would he come back, he has murdered and fled. People whispered,. people concluded that it was because God Himself had sent him.

The stories grew louder with each passing day.

They said Moses walked straight into Pharaoh's palace, looked the most powerful man in Egypt in the eye, and demanded only one thing:

"Let my people go."

I imagined the room falling silent and Pharaoh laughing.

Because who speaks to a king like that? and not just any other king. Pharaoh himself.

Who dared speak to him like that…

Who stands before the ruler of an empire with nothing but a shepherd's staff and the confidence of a God no Egyptian had ever seen?

Pharaoh refused, Of course he did, he wasn't going to allow someone who he had watched grow to just step in and dictate to him like that.

The next morning, nothing looked different, the people still slaved, pharaoh still denied.

It was no longer rumours by then, my mother said it with certainty: “It is our God, that has sent Moses to us again, to redeem us”.

The atmosphere at home became lighter, my mother smiled more and my father had a spark in his eyes that I haven't seen in my lifetime.

Hope was tangible, it was concrete, I felt that a shift was about to happen.

They said there were signs, Moses had shown pharaoh signs…

My father sat us down and told us with smiles on his face and with the excitement of a five year old. He was tired that day but his joy gave him strength.

They said Moses did not go to Pharaoh with empty words. Before the king, he cast his staff to the ground, and it became a serpent. Pharaoh did not flinch. He summoned his own magicians, and they did the same. For a moment, it looked as though Egypt had answered the God of our fathers. But then Moses' serpent swallowed theirs whole, as if to remind everyone in the room that there was no contest at all. Still, Pharaoh's face remained hard, and his heart, even harder.

The whispers spread through our homes before the sun had set. "God truly sent him," some said. "Pharaoh still refused," others answered. I could not understand how a man could witness such a thing and remain unmoved. But I would soon learn that a heart determined not to listen can look a miracle in the face and still call it nothing.

Then, things started to happen

The river that had always given Egypt life turned the colour of blood. Frogs appeared where they did not belong. Gnats covered the land. Flies filled the air. Livestock died. Boils scarred skin. Hail shattered fields. Locusts swallowed what little remained. Then darkness came, thick, heavy darkness that seemed to swallow the sun itself.

But, we were safe in Goshen.

With every plague came another journey to Pharaoh, With every journey came another refusal, And with every refusal, the whispers changed.

Now they said, "God is fighting for us."

Even the Egyptians began to fear the name they once mocked. Still, Pharaoh did not bend.

It was as though pride had become his prison.

Then one evening, my father came home before the sun had disappeared beyond the horizon, This time, he carried a certainty with him.

He closed the door behind him, looked at my mother, then at me, and said quietly,

"Tonight, do exactly as you're told."

We kept quiet, I had never been this eager to obey in my life, my mind was made up to do whatever my father said.

Things were about to change and I could feel it in my bones.

Yh... This is a story of how moses was sent to the Israelites. I wrote from the perspective of a child born in that time. You'd love it, I assure you.
