Fear of Disappointment
<p><strong>Fear of Disappointment</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>Fear is real.</p><p><br/></p><p>It has many forms,</p><p>but the fear I fear most</p><p>is the fear of disappointment.</p><p><br/></p><p>The slow look given to me</p><p>when I achieve less than expected.</p><p>The silence that follows.</p><p>It grips me tightly,</p><p>locking me within its prison,</p><p>where failure dashes hope against cold walls.</p><p><br/></p><p>I fear not achieving my dreams.</p><p>I fear the disappointment that follows.</p><p>And this fear is not without reason.</p><p>It arrives with a dark aura,</p><p>whispering that I am not enough,</p><p>warning me not to stumble,</p><p>not to fall.</p><p><br/></p><p>Yet what I fear most</p><p>is my parents looking toward me,</p><p>knowing I could have done better,</p><p>seeing only the failure I have become.</p><p><br/></p><p>It is their disappointment</p><p>that weighs heaviest on my heart.</p><p><br/></p><p>Perhaps they are the origin of this fear,</p><p>not because they demanded perfection,</p><p>but because I care about their voices.</p><p>I care about their validation.</p><p>I want to give them the world,</p><p>knowing how much they sacrificed for me.</p><p><br/></p><p>It physically pains me</p><p>to know they struggled for my future</p><p>while I stand before them</p><p>with disappointment in my hands.</p><p><br/></p><p>So when I speak of the fear of disappointment,</p><p>understand that it is no small fear.</p><p><br/></p><p>Hope rests upon my shoulders.</p><p>And to bring back fear,</p><p>to return with failure.....</p><p>socially,</p><p>academically,</p><p>spiritually.....</p><p>feels like wounding those</p><p>who only ever wanted the best for me.</p><p><br/></p><p>That is the fear I know.</p><p><br/></p><p>That is the fear I carry.</p>
