FREEWILL: THE HUMAN’S ULTIMATE POTENTIAL. We definitely won’t be mentioning freewill without talking about determinism. The other doctrine that opposes its essence. Funny how majority people believe in Determinism; however they do because of free will. Freewill: is the ability a person have to act within his or her own discretion without the constraints of fate. I mean it can be as simple as me deciding to become a trans…. a random friday. Now I ask, do you also think that has been pre determined by a supreme power that I will do that? Is it my fate to be a trans or am I just the one using my free willpower? In the same vein, let us talk about Determinism: the doctrine that all events, including human action, are ultimately determined by causes regarded as external to the will. Some philosophers have taken determinism to imply that individual human beings have no free will and cannot be held morally responsible for their actions. Interestingly, determinism can also depict the evil and good side of the world. What do you mean I should not be held responsible for assaulting my neighbor because it was never willingly or because it is the responsibility of some external force. Does that sounds logical? Well, I don’t think so. As much as determinism can sound illogical, it has been demonstrated in several events that the universe works like that sometimes, which has discredited the idea of freewill. Talking about how determinism has strongly influenced our thinking: majority of the religion believes that everything happening was instituted by a supernatural force. So, what is even the essence of living when everything has been decided? What is the essence of trying at all? Does that mean that determinism can be compromised? Can the future be manipulated or bent to favor us or is it just a fallacy? Furthermore, what about fate? Could it be the same thing as determinism? Fate: the development of events outside a person's control, regarded as predetermined by a supernatural power. It is quite similar to determinism and definitely a branch of it… Just that I have noticed that it is mostly associated to bad luck. When a person dies or gets sacked at work. They would say: he was fated to experience that while most times, good luck is associated with destiny. Historically, three goddesses who presided over the birth and life of humans. Each person's destiny was thought of as a thread spun, measured, and cut by the three Fates, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. Also called Moirai, and Parcae. However, there are several events when a destined person ends up experiencing some sort of bad luck despite the visions that such person will be successful… These are questions we need to ponder on… Does supernatural exist, is determinism a concept of a dictator or is it just a natural and rare phenomenon? As an advocate of free will, I believe that humans have the power to maim, save, maintain, create and control the situations around them. Maybe not full control, but it definitely can be manipulated. We are of free will. Look at the creature story of the scripture. In the beginning, when evil was extinct, determinism could have existed alone but the moment man’s eye got opened to good and evil. Free will appears in the picture. Free will is the ultimate power of human and it is advisable to be used to the full potential. Live your life the way you want.
