How do You TALK to GOD?

When I first started speaking in tongues, I genuinely thought I was possessed.

Before you laugh, let me explain.

I was alone in my room with my laptop, watching Reboot Camp 2022 virtually when it happened. Apostle Emmanuel Iren was ministering on the gifts of the Spirit, and suddenly, I found myself repeating a phrase I didn’t even understand, over and over again.

And my first thought was, “Eiiii… possession?"

Don't mind me. During that period, I texted my beautiful friend, Glory Ehizuelen; shout-out to her and Pastor Nelson of The Equipping Centre, who helped me understand that what I received was a gift.

Later, I understood what the Bible said in 1 Corinthians 14:2: “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God… they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”

But today, I’m not preaching about speaking in tongues. You’ve probably heard enough sermons about that. Today, I want to talk about prayer. For a while, I had made prayer a session of just roaring in tongues. You know those kinds of machine-type speaking in tongues. Ra-tat-tat-tat-ta....That’s it.

But prayer is about communication with God. A month ago, I had a meltdown and an amazing woman in my service unit said something simple,” Sit down and talk to God.”

And I found that strange. Because somewhere along the line, I had replaced conversation with power and intimacy with intensity. You know how Minister Theophilus says,” Intensifyyyy.” That was me in the place of prayer. Whenever I speak in tongues, it feels powerful and deep. But I forgot something Jesus taught in Matthew 6:7: “When you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans… your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”

God knows, but He still wants me to ask. “Call to Me, and I will answer you…” So that fateful day, I sat down and said everything honestly, and it felt good. I spoke to him like I was talking to my friend,” Like daddy, this thing is not balanced at all... Make me understand."

Yes, I still woke up at midnight and roared in prayer. That part of me is not going anywhere. But God wants that intimacy with me, those words to come out of my mouth.

So today, sit and talk to Him, ask Him questions, write to Him, talk to God honestly, either out loud or by journaling your thoughts and prayers. Tell Him what’s on your mind, what’s made you anxious, what you’re grateful for.

If it helps, write it down like a letter. Then, if you want to release your machine-gun tongues, go ahead. But don’t forget the conversation. Like 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."

And he wants to hear from you today.

Love,

God’s prayer warrior, Twi-Twi
