"IT CAN WAIT" NO, IT CAN'T!

“It can wait”, three simple words that have probably delayed more dreams, assignments, opportunities and responsibilities than we would like to admit.

Sometimes, waiting feels harmless. You tell yourself you will start that assignment after scrolling through your phone for a few minutes. You promise to study tomorrow because you are “not in the mood” today. You put off learning a skill because you feel you're still too young. You postpone that important task because there is still enough time. Then, suddenly, tomorrow becomes today, the deadline is staring you in the face, and panic sets in.

That is procrastination.

Procrastination is the habit of unnecessarily delaying or putting off something that needs to be done. Although it may provide temporary relief, its consequences can be serious. It can lead to poor performance, unnecessary stress, missed opportunities and disappointment.

One of the biggest dangers of procrastination is the pressure it creates. A task that could have been completed calmly over several days may become a stressful race against time when left until the last minute. Under such pressure, mistakes become more likely, and the quality of the work may suffer.

Procrastination can also become a habit. The more frequently we postpone responsibilities, the easier it becomes to do so again. “I will do it later” gradually becomes a lifestyle, and important opportunities may pass while we are still waiting for the “right time.”

The truth is, there will always be a reason to wait. We may not feel motivated, we may feel tired, or we may convince ourselves that there is still plenty of time. But progress does not always require motivation. Sometimes, it simply requires starting.

So, the next time you find yourself saying, “It can wait,” pause and ask yourself: "Can it really?"

Start with one small step. Open that book. Write the first sentence. Learn that skill. Make that call. Submit that application. Just begin.

Because sometimes, what we keep postponing is exactly what could move us forward.

Tick-tock stranger.
