He would lay on his bed and daydream, eagerness wan kpai am. Definitely not what you expected, but it was something he looked forward to. Don’t tell anyone is such a big secret, he just wanted out. With everything being laid out, he saw a pattern he wanted to follow and he knew what must be done.

Ahhh!, his very own was what he wanted. It all happened during that one conversation; he did want out but he had just started. It would be better if it were days or weeks, but it was several years apart… I’m stalling, ain’t I?? If it’s a secret, who am I to tell.

Just maybe if you’d promise not to tell anyone, I’d let you in on it, but it’s a little bit hard when his fyp was always buzzing with the same thing he was looking forward to. Ahhh, the urge to repost, he definitely clicked that button. The algorithm sure knew what it was doing, as if it knew, but what if it did know? This person was asking Gemini all series of questions; instead of keeping to himself, he would ask, “How do i bag a strong 2:1 or first class in this course when I’m not good at math?”

He saw how his uncle moved, he wanted just that and even better; he saw how his mother lived and said he had to taste it too. It was years away but it started from how he treated his courses. He did go for lectures, he definitely attended tutorials, but the math wasn’t mathing. His major problem was this math, every other course was okay, but who’d want to be friends with an olodo he’d say. I might as well start my Akara business and sell bread with it, but this he looked forward to was greater, far better—an international scholarship was no joke. It was a very big deal, a once in a lifetime opportunity at his fingertips, he couldn’t leave the global stage for the local streets.

He had started this and he had to finish it; no one was coming to help him here, he had to do it himself, he had to solve it himself, he had to grab his pen firmly. This depth dwelt with him ever since the day he had this conversation with his mum and uncle—the only way out was given to him on a platter. He knew from now, he couldn’t follow the crowd, his being here was different. While walking with his friends, while working on a projector or doing his assignments and when he’s all by himself, he knew the problem and needed a way to solve it.

And he concluded within him, he determined he’d push himself. So what he did was unplug his earpiece, lock in his books, and listen to the lecturer right in front of him, while waiting patiently….
