Rage Moments in Anime 1: Gon Freecs

I just finished a rewatch of Hunter X Hunter, the famed shounen jump manga and anime by Yoshihiro Togashi.After the news of its return earlier this year, I knew it was time for me to return to it, and while watching it, like 99% percent of the viewers, the arc that stood out to me was the Chimera Arc. <img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1004809868.jpg"/> This arc is the fifth and the longest arc in the story; it can also be said to be the arc where our protagonist and deuteragonist was put through some of the fastest character development seen in the shounen world. <img alt="" src="/media/inline_insight_image/1004785518.jpg"/>Gon's rage towards Neferpitou was iconic.Iconic in It's unpredictability and validation. Yet in a way, it was a rage that was hypocritical, simply because Kite's death was a possibility that Gon was meant to know about, yet being true to his character, it was a possibility he simply discarded.<blockquote>Kite is waiting for me to get stronger so I can come save him.</blockquote> That was his ideology, that is the optimistic and green 12 year old boy we had watched for close to 100 episodes.Trained in the wild, extremely talented, strong and innocent to a fault, so innocent that the idea that a strong hunter, a friend of his father who he just met, dying was impossible.Even when the broken and dead puppet kite was brought, Gon still deluded himself to believe he could be fixed.At this point, it was valid to everyone, even the viewers that he was gone.<a class="tc-blue" href="https://youtu.be/o7E3mNfJ0qw?si=mm22P8NQrhAUM9vd" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">youtu.be/o7E3mNfJ0qw?si=mm22P8NQrhAUM9vd </a> In certain Anime shows, there are times that a character's rage really shows just how scary a character's wrath can be, especially if this wrath is the exact opposite from the normally cheerful main character.This rage after seeing Kite wounded enveloped Gon and the fire wasn't something that was easily doused.It was self fueling, it was kept at low heat till it's target was in its sight, and that episode is one that anybody who has watched the anime or is a regular viewer of animetok has seen and would forever remember.<a class="tc-blue" href="https://youtu.be/6HMgngw3qNU?si=xlZi7_3w9G_Ma3S8" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">youtu.be/6HMgngw3qNU?si=xlZi7_3w9G_Ma3S8 </a> I won't lie. It was scary, given just how kind hearted he was to watch this was just a whole new experience, one where you wonder just how far he'll go.He went the farthest, so far enough that he put his life on the line for his vengeance.<a class="tc-blue" href="https://youtu.be/zA6WNlpFyvE?si=gF_xpzz-CKUoNmFj" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">youtu.be/zA6WNlpFyvE?si=gF_xpzz-CKUoNmFj </a> One beautiful thing about the rage moment was that the animators constantly didn't let it go unnoticed.We as viewers were constantly reminded through the shadings and the colors of how deep his anger was.To be honest, "rage" is putting in lightly and through these little clips I'm posting you can have a grasp of how angry he was, but to feel the full brunt, you have to watch the anime completely too.
