Maybe it’s just me, but music doesn’t sound like music anymore.

These days, every song feels like it was mixed inside a nylon bag — same beat, same lyrics, same two lines repeated until you start questioning your existence.

Gone are the days when songs had depth. When you could actually sit, listen, and feel something stir inside you — joy, heartbreak, hope, anything. Now it’s all “shake your waist, touch your toes, spend your money.” Half the time, I don’t even know what they’re saying — I just hear “vibes.”

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy a good beat, but it feels like everyone’s chasing a trend, not telling a story. Every song sounds like the last song. You check the playlist and it’s 10 artists, one producer, and the same sound. Music has become... brainrot.

There was a time when lyrics painted pictures. You’d hear Simi sing and feel like you were sitting under a tree with a breeze whispering through your thoughts. Or when Johnny Drille could make you miss someone you’ve never even met. Even love songs had class. Now love songs sound like voice notes from unserious people.

And don’t get me started on the music videos. Once upon a time, a music video could make you cry. Now it’s just three people dancing in smoke, someone wearing sunglasses indoors, and the artist whispering “yeah, yeah” into the mic like it’s a secret.

But maybe it’s not just the music that changed — maybe we did.

We got used to fast things. Short things. Songs that end before you can even feel them. Music has become background noise for scrolling, not something we actually sit with. Everything has to “trend,” so no one’s taking time to create something timeless anymore.

Still, I think there’s hope. Every now and then, you stumble on a song that reminds you what music used to feel like — something that makes you close your eyes and just breathe.

That’s when you remember: music isn’t just sound. It’s memory. It’s healing. It’s emotion wrapped in rhythm.

So, maybe it’s not that music doesn’t sound like music anymore.

Maybe it’s that we’ve stopped listening the way we used to.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
