Who Stayed</p><p><br/></p><p>The police searched the apartment.</p><p><br/></p><p>There was no child.</p><p><br/></p><p>No hidden speaker.</p><p><br/></p><p>No evidence anyone else had been there.</p><p><br/></p><p>The officers exchanged worried glances.</p><p><br/></p><p>One finally smiled.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You’re under a lot of stress.”</p><p><br/></p><p>As they left, one of them paused beside the bookshelf.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Oh.”</p><p><br/></p><p>“You still have her.”</p><p><br/></p><p>He smiled warmly at the doll.</p><p><br/></p><p>“My sister had one exactly like this.”</p><p><br/></p><p>He gently patted its head.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then walked away.</p><p><br/></p><p>Amara’s stomach dropped.</p><p><br/></p><p>He had touched it.</p><p><br/></p><p>⸻</p><p><br/></p><p>That night…</p><p><br/></p><p>Someone knocked on her door.</p><p><br/></p><p>Three slow knocks.</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked through the peephole.</p><p><br/></p><p>No one.</p><p><br/></p><p>She opened it anyway.</p><p><br/></p><p>The hallway was empty.</p><p><br/></p><p>Except…</p><p><br/></p><p>Tiny wet footprints.</p><p><br/></p><p>The size of a child’s shoes.</p><p><br/></p><p>They led into her apartment.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not away from it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Into it.</p><p><br/></p><p>She slammed the door.</p><p><br/></p><p>Locked every bolt.</p><p><br/></p><p>When she turned around…</p><p><br/></p><p>The footprints continued across the floor.</p><p><br/></p><p>One.</p><p><br/></p><p>After another.</p><p><br/></p><p>Step.</p><p><br/></p><p>Step.</p><p><br/></p><p>Step.</p><p><br/></p><p>Until they stopped…</p><p><br/></p><p>Directly in front of the doll.</p><p><br/></p><p>⸻</p><p><br/></p><p>Its head tilted.</p><p><br/></p><p>Just slightly.</p><p><br/></p><p>She was certain it hadn’t done that before.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then…</p><p><br/></p><p>A sound.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not from the doll.</p><p><br/></p><p>From inside its porcelain body.</p><p><br/></p><p>A heartbeat.</p><p><br/></p><p>Slow.</p><p><br/></p><p>Steady.</p><p><br/></p><p>Alive.</p><p><br/></p><p>⸻</p><p><br/></p><p>She grabbed it with trembling hands.</p><p><br/></p><p>“I’m done.”</p><p><br/></p><p>She drove to the edge of the old quarry outside town.</p><p><br/></p><p>Without hesitating, she hurled the doll into the darkness.</p><p><br/></p><p>She listened.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p>No impact.</p><p><br/></p><p>No crash.</p><p><br/></p><p>Only silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>She drove home without looking back.</p><p><br/></p><p>For the first time in days…</p><p><br/></p><p>She smiled.</p><p><br/></p><p>⸻</p><p><br/></p><p>The next morning…</p><p><br/></p><p>There was a small cardboard box outside her apartment.</p><p><br/></p><p>No address.</p><p><br/></p><p>No stamp.</p><p><br/></p><p>No footprints.</p><p><br/></p><p>Inside…</p><p><br/></p><p>Nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p>Just a folded note.</p><p><br/></p><p>Thank you for bringing me home.</p><p><br/></p><p>She backed away in horror.</p><p><br/></p><p>Something gently touched her shoulder.</p><p><br/></p><p>She spun around.</p><p><br/></p><p>No one.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then she noticed the mirror.</p><p><br/></p><p>She wasn’t alone.</p><p><br/></p><p>The doll stood behind her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not as a reflection.</p><p><br/></p><p>Behind her.</p><p><br/></p><p>In the room.</p><p><br/></p><p>She slowly turned.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nothing.</p><p><br/></p><p>She looked back at the mirror.</p><p><br/></p><p>Still there.</p><p><br/></p><p>Smiling.</p><p><br/></p><p>Closer now.</p><p><br/></p><p>Its lips moved.</p><p><br/></p><p>Without making a sound.</p><p><br/></p><p>Don’t turn around.</p><p><br/></p><p>She did.</p><p><br/></p><p>The apartment was empty.</p><p><br/></p><p>When she looked back at the mirror…</p><p><br/></p><p>Her reflection was gone.</p><p><br/></p><p>Only the doll remained.</p><p><br/></p><p>Standing where she should have been.</p><p><br/></p><p>Smiling with her smile.</p><p><br/></p><p>⸻</p><p><br/></p><p>Apartment 14B stayed vacant for months.</p><p><br/></p><p>Neighbors claimed they sometimes heard soft knocking at 3:13 a.m.</p><p><br/></p><p>Exactly thirteen knocks.</p><p><br/></p><p>Always polite.</p><p><br/></p><p>Always patient.</p><p><br/></p><p>When new tenants finally moved in, they found the apartment spotless.</p><p><br/></p><p>No furniture.</p><p><br/></p><p>No photographs.</p><p><br/></p><p>No sign that anyone had ever lived there.</p><p><br/></p><p>Only a small porcelain doll sitting on the living room shelf.</p><p><br/></p><p>A moving worker frowned.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Did you leave this here?”</p><p><br/></p><p>“No.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Another shrugged.</p><p><br/></p><p>“Probably belonged to the last tenant.”</p><p><br/></p><p>He placed it into a cardboard box.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sealed it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Wrote one name across the top.</p><p><br/></p><p>The next owner.</p><p><br/></p><p>⸻</p><p><br/></p><p>The box appeared outside another apartment.</p><p><br/></p><p>No delivery van.</p><p><br/></p><p>No footsteps.</p><p><br/></p><p>No knock.</p><p><br/></p><p>Just waiting.</p><p><br/></p><p>Inside was a porcelain doll.</p><p><br/></p><p>Its left eye was bright blue.</p><p><br/></p><p>Its right eye looked strangely wet.</p><p><br/></p><p>Folded beneath its tiny hands was a brittle note.</p><p><br/></p><p>Please don’t leave her alone.</p><p><br/></p><p>And if you looked very closely…</p><p><br/></p><p>You’d notice something new.</p><p><br/></p><p>The doll wasn’t smiling anymore.</p><p><br/></p><p>It was wearing the face of a terrified young woman.</p><p><br/></p><p>Her name…</p><p><br/></p><p>Was Amara.</p><p><br/></p><p>Thanks for reading ✌️❤️</p>
At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
