Read till the end...‎‎Ewedu, for the purpose of this write-up, is broken down into 'Ewé tó dùn'(roughly translated as 'sweet vegetable'). It is called a sweet vegetable, but it is quite unfortunate that Ewedu cannot be a sweet vegetable in its raw, leafy state. Ewedu can only bring out its sweetness when it has undergone some processing with the aid of certain ingredients. Sodium bicarbonate, locust bean, salt, and the chosen seasoning are the agents that bring out the flavour reflected in Ewedu's name. The ingredients do not create the identity of Ewedu,they help bring out the flavour that would otherwise remain hidden.‎‎The sodium bicarbonate helps to soften the Ewedu so that it becomes easy to whisk. There are some people, systems, or experiences that represent this ingredient in our lives. Their function, either consciously or unconsciously is to see to it that we are softened enough to be whisked into a desired state. They soften our rigidity and make us workable.‎‎The locust bean, although it might be smelly, it helps bring out the deliciousness and aroma in the Ewedu. Some people fall into this category in our lives. Although they might appear with visible weaknesses and unpleasant attributes, allowing them into our lives might help bring out strengths in us.‎‎Salt is one of the essential ingredients. We must recognise the people or systems in our lives whose absence would leave a significant vacuum. These are people or systems that are not meant to remain outside the walls of our lives.‎‎The seasoning complements the effort of the salt in cooking Ewedu. There are people, systems, or experiences like that, they complement the efforts of other things in our lives. They might not be able to function on their own, but this must not push us to push them away, because there are moments when their contribution becomes indispensable.‎‎Lastly, the Ewedu broom is also very important. Even if the softener is added, if the whisk is not put to work, we will not have a perfect soup. So also is it in our lives. We need people or systems that will help to break us into the right state. Not everyone who helps us is an ingredient; some are instruments of transformation.‎‎It is important that we allow all the ingredients and instruments to be present and to perform their assignments so that the sweetness embedded in us might come out. In life, we need different people or systems that can add to our inadequacies and bring out the flavour in us.‎‎Remember, though Ewedu carries the name, it doesn't single-handedly carry the sweetness.‎‎Selah.
