THE HARDEST PART OF HEALING

Sometimes, the hardest part of healing is accepting that the people who hurt you may never understand what they did to you.

For a long time, I thought healing would come when they finally understood. I imagined the conversation in my head so many times. I wanted them to see what I saw. I wanted them to know how many nights I cried, how many times I questioned myself, and how long it took me to feel like myself again.

I wanted an apology that showed they truly understood.

But life doesn't always give us that kind of closure.

Sometimes, the person who hurt you sleeps peacefully while you are still learning how to stop carrying what they left behind. Sometimes, they remember the situation completely differently. Maybe, in their story, they didn't do anything wrong. Maybe they have already moved on.

And that used to hurt me even more.

How could someone hurt me so deeply and not even understand the depth of it?

Then I slowly realized something.

My healing cannot depend on someone else's understanding.

I don't need them to agree that I was hurt before my pain becomes real. I don't need them to admit they were wrong before I am allowed to move forward. And I don't need an apology to give myself permission to let go.

Maybe closure isn't always a conversation.

Sometimes, closure is quietly accepting that you may never get the words you deserved and choosing peace anyway.

I can acknowledge what happened without allowing it to become my whole story.

I can remember without returning. I can forgive without pretending it didn't hurt. And most importantly, I can heal without waiting for the person who hurt me to understand why I needed to.

Some wounds become lighter when we stop waiting for the person who caused them to explain why they happened.

~ LISS WHISPERS
