The Quiet Fear of Falling Behind

“Maybe you are not working smart enough.”

The thought usually came after scrolling through social media for too long.

Because somehow, everybody was becoming something.

A new job.

A relocation.

An engagement.

Another testimony.

Another “God did.”

And then there was her.

Praying.

Trying.

Trusting God.

Waiting.

Yet life still felt painfully quiet.

And honestly, haven’t we all had that moment before?

That moment after congratulating someone online, then quietly asking God:

“When will it be my turn?”

It never really started as jealousy.

It started as waiting.

Waiting so long for something beautiful that everybody else’s breakthrough began to feel like a reminder of your own unanswered prayers.

And slowly, comparison started talking.

“Maybe you’re behind.”

“Maybe you wasted too much time.”

“Maybe God has forgotten you.”

The scary thing is, after a while, she almost believed it.

Because when everybody’s life looks loud and successful, your quiet season can begin to feel like failure.

But God was teaching her something she did not understand at first:

Not every season is meant to be visible.

Some seasons are for growing roots.

And roots grow in hidden places.

Over time, she realised that many of the people she envied were also fighting battles nobody could see. The smiling pictures did not tell the full story. The testimonies did not show the tears behind them.

And suddenly, she understood:

God does not write every story at the same pace.

Some people bloom early.

Others bloom deeply.

Then one day, something shifted in her heart.

Instead of asking,

“Why is everybody ahead of me?”

she started asking,

“What is God trying to build in me?”

And that changed everything.

Because maybe the delay was not punishment.

Maybe God was preparing her for the weight of the prayer she kept praying.

After all, a seed looks buried before it looks planted.

Yet buried things still grow.

Quietly.

Slowly.

In God’s perfect timing.
