THE WEDDING WAS CANCELLED OVER MONEY

I attended a wedding recently, and something happened that I honestly can't stop thinking about. The bride had 10 bridesmaids, and they contributed ₦1 million each as a wedding gift for her — ₦10 million in total. A few days before the wedding, the couple still had some outstanding expenses to sort out, so the groom asked if they could use some of the money to take care of them. The bride refused. She said the money was given to her, not to both of them, and that she already had plans for it. The groom felt that since they were getting married and still had bills to settle, she should at least be willing to contribute something. They argued, things got heated, and eventually, the wedding was cancelled. A wedding that was only one week away.

I've been thinking about it ever since. I understand the bride's position — if someone gives you ₦10 million as a gift, you have every right to decide what to do with it. But at the same time, if you're about to marry someone and there are still important wedding expenses to handle, wouldn't you expect your partner to at least consider helping?

Or was the groom simply feeling entitled to money that wasn't his?

If you were in this situation, who would you side with — the bride or the groom? And would you still go ahead with the marriage after this?
