The Wounded General

The Wounded General

I have never felt this defeated in my life.

I was always ready for the fight, for every battle life threw at me. I stood at the forefront of every quest, every project, every presentation, every debate. I pioneered them.

I lived by a simple law: if every day was a battlefield, then I would stand, fight, and see it through.

That was me.

That was me when I was unstoppable, a force to be reckoned with.

But as time passed, I grew weary. I grew afraid. Slowly, I became a shadow of myself.

But you know what's funny?

I never stopped performing.

So everyone believed the soldier was still ready for battle every single day, never realizing that the general was wounded and searching for a place to heal.

Broken ribs.

A fractured skull.

A bruised heart.

I was losing too much blood.

I was bleeding where no one could see.

The arrow of fear was buried deep in my chest. The spear of lust had pierced my thigh.

It was war.

I dragged myself beneath an old oak tree. I sat there, gasping for breath, trying to gather enough strength for one more battle.

Yet they still praised my bravery.

I didn't need your applause.

I needed your help.

They saw a bruised soldier with a staggering posture, trembling legs, a dented suit of armour, and a silver sword still clutched in his hand.

And they all cheered.

They hailed me as a hero.

But they never noticed...

He was bleeding.

All they cared about was that he would save them.
