We are going extinct
<p>When we hear colonisers, all we think about is the British people who colonised us. </p><p>We forget to also talk about the Arabians who indirectly colonised some part of Nigeria through religion.</p><p>It's safe to say that with the level of awakening in Nigeria, some cultures might go extinct before the next generation.</p><p>People barely know their language, their actual culture and it's saddening.</p><p>Taking the Hausa people as a case study, I know the folklore of the Igbo and Yoruba </p><p>Their creations stories, their traditional names, their indigenous names even without making any form of research, because it's literally everywhere.</p><p>I can't say the same for the same Hausa and it's very much unfortunate.</p><p>When I remember that "Allah" is actually Arabic instead of Hausa </p><p>When I remember that I don't know their indigenous gods</p><p>And then I remembered their indigenous names are going gradually extinct and it's been replaced with Arabic names such as Ibrahim and Fatima </p><p>The only festival I know of is the Argungun fishing festival.</p><p><br/></p><p>Coward pen said </p><p><em>"I feel for my history when i think of those days</em></p><p><em><br/></em></p><p><em>Because i don't know whose culture we neglect"</em></p><p><em><a class="tc-blue" href="https://twocents.space/insight/whose-culture-7833/#" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">twocents.space/insight/whose-culture-... </a></em></p><p><em><br/></em></p><p>It's quite unfortunate and do we say</p><p><br/></p><p>I think it's high time we started taking pride in our languages seriously, talk about our tribes with utmost pride cause our culture is what makes us.</p><p><br/></p><p>I'm an igala girl and my name is Omaojo.</p><p>What about you??</p>
